Sometimes life stinks. Sometimes it's fabulous. How we react to those awful and wonderful moments in life makes us the people we are.
The parable of the 10 Virgins talks about filling your lamp with oil so you will be prepared at the Second Coming. A good deed done or a spiritual lesson learned are things that fill our lamps.
I started this blog so I could share my lamp-filling journey with you, one drop at a time.
When I was younger, I didn't really connect with this parable. However, maturing in life has taught me a great deal about what the Savior was teaching in this parable. One thing I find thought-provoking, Christ never uses "good" and "evil." The virgins are called "wise" and "foolish" We can do many things in this life that are not inherently evil, yet they can be quite foolish.
ReplyDeleteI also oft wondered, why won't they share. I like the following explanation.
How can one share the blessings that come through visiting the sick? How can one share in the blessings that come from assisting the widow or the fatherless? How can one share a personal testimony? How can one share the blessings of conference attendance? How can one share the lesson of obedience learned in living the principle of tithing? Certainly each must accumulate this kind of oil for himself. Let us not procrastinate.
